MUMBAI MERI JAAN

Truly, the city never fails to charm you with its ‘this happens only in Mumbai’ peculiarities.

Like the ‘vada pav’, the ‘neera’, ‘the karonde’, which you get only in Mumbai, the colonial monuments like the ‘Victoria Terminus’ ( I prefer the old name), the ‘Churchgate’ area, ‘Flora Fountain’, ‘Marine Drive’ lending the city a global feel and cosmopolitan hang. The main charm are the waters of the Arabian sea – a nature’s bounty, giving a soothing and healing touch to the seven-island strip called ‘Mumbai’. So when you plan your next visit, check out these interesting places in Mumbai!

Places you should visit in Mumbai in 2023

1. Keshav Srushti – An underrated place in Mumbai

This place comes on the top of interesting places to visit in Mumbai because it is so close to nature that you won’t believe you are in the metro.

I attended a 3 day life style residential program in a lush green, pristine and natural environment at Keshav Srushti last month.

Nestled in a village – Uttan, in the northern Mumbai suburb of Bhayander, and spread across 150- 200 acres, the campus boasts of lush green, well maintained, serene and peaceful landscape, away from the hustle bustle of the city.

Home to various species of flora, fauna and herbal plants besides mango, banana and coconut plantations, the campus provides the perfect getaway for hosting residential training and orientation, aimed at social and political awakening.

The Rambhau Malghi Prabhodini institution provides conference halls, gardens, cafeteria, cottages, rooms, dining hall and all other facilities and a very cooperative staff person.

They also have a gaushala, a nursery with exclusive medicinal and herbal plants.

Mumbaikars planning a one-day visit to Keshavsrushti can choose from two of their programs –

They have 2 structured programs

‘Nature trail’ and ‘Be a villager for a day’.

Both have planned and fun filled activities along with nutritious meals which will bring you closer to nature. It is also a perfect picnic spot for school children combining educational and recreational purposes.

All in all, this place is a must visit for all persons who love Mumbai and for Mumbaikars to surprise themselves and peek into a place so beautifully maintained, developed and constantly striving to work towards the building of a self-reliant nation as envisioned by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar- founder of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

2. Bombay Chowpatty – The JAAN of Mumbai

My last memory of Bombay Chowpatty, before this chance visit to the beach, was around a decade back…it was of garbage strewn everywhere, vendors, beggars and street urchins roaming along with tourists giving them a harrowing time. An awfully crowded and dirty beach.

In the past few years, the BMC has done a praiseworthy work – the beach has become much much cleaner, organized and less noisy and serene.

All the vendors have been moved to one corner of the beach – you can find all your favorite stalls of panipuri, chaat, wada pav, milk parlours, coconut water, etc tucked neatly in one place.

So you can peacefully soak in the sunset, hear the soothing sound of the waters of the Arabian sea, enjoy the moonlight, take long walks by the beach or just stand in the water and experience the ebbs and flows of the tide taking away the ground off your feet and rushing in again to hold your feet firmly. Make sure to visit this interesting place before you leave Mumbai.

3. Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre – A haven for the art and culture aficionados!

The most interesting and newest additions to Mumbai – this is the newest and most trendiest place in Mumbai – hence on top of your list on the most interesting places in Mumbai

If you are in Mumbai, you just can’t miss a visit  to this place. A vertical of the Jio World Centre –  the NMACC holds cultural and art shows in its four intricately and tastefully designed spaces –The Grand Theatre, The Studio Theatre, The Cube and The Art House.

Located in the Jio square – It has all components of the signature style of the Ambanis’ – opulence, exuberance, extravaganza combined with class, excellence, global appeal, and world class amenities.

The Grand Theatre

A spectacular 2000 seat venue that hosts shows, musicals and plays of the highest calibre

We went to watch – Feroz Abbas Khan(famous for his musical play – Mughal-e- azam)’s ‘The Great Indian Musical – Civilization to Nation’ – which made its debut at this royal theatre.

A sensual treat – Feroz Abbas has done a spectacular job of celebrating India’s syncretic diversity with more than 150 artistes in a perfectly synchronized dance, drama and musical performance, their 2000 costumes designed by Manish Malhotra, voice over by the Great Amitabh Bachchan, recorded speeches of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Swami Vivekananda – the 90-minute show was captivating, enthralling and awe inspiring.

At the end of the show, Nita Ambani walked up on the stage and thanked each and every one for making the show a success. The fully packed Theatre in turn reverberated with cheers of ‘Thank you’ in Marathi, Gujarati, Hindi adding to the feverish excitement.

After her graceful talk, the entire crew along with Feroz Abbas – her classmate and friend walked up the stage and took a bow. Here is a peek into the trailer of the show.

So check out their shows, festivals and events on their website, before you reach Mumbai, and book tickets in advance before you get the ‘sold out’ sign.
