For Travellers from Indore

  • For those who will be travelling by their own vehicle from Indore – don’t rely completely on google maps – as many of the newly built highways like the Ahmedabad express highway are completely ignored by google and map gives you a route through Ujjain.
  • We followed a much shorter and better route shared by our friend who frequently travels to Udaipur by road…
  • Take the super corridor road and go straight upto Lebad –
  • then turn left and type Nimbada on the google map –
  • once you reach Nimbada – you have entered Rajasthan – then you can let maps guide you till Udaipur.

Travel Tips to Udaipur

Before you plan a trip to Udaipur – do check out the below pointers to have a pleasant, hassle free and enjoyable stay at this city – a tourist’s delight.

HOTELS

The first and foremost travel tips to Udaipur, is to book yourself a good place to stay. You can use any of the online booking platforms. We booked through airbnb.

  • It is better to book hotel stays in advance.
  • You get very good hotels owned by the prosperous local Rajputs, which are old palaces or forts.
  • Most of them are located by Fateh Saagar lake so you get a view of the lake from your room. The architecture with the in house facilities like swimming pool, kids zone, huge lawns, give you the royal feeling.
  • They have medium to high range of rooms to cater to a broad pocket size.
  • The hotel – Devendra Garh – where we stayed had a very exquisite vintage car collection – worth a mention – Humber Vintage Car made in England in 1928 purchased from Maharana Bhopal Singh with an escalator in the steering as the Maharana’s one leg was short due to polio ; left drive war model Jeeps  –  1942 – purchased from the military ; a 1966 Mercedez Benz model purchased from MahaRani Kumud Kumari of Gujarat.

BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN UDAIPUR

The second Travel Tips to Udaipur is to plan in advance your day’s itinerary. The list given below will help you in planning your days in advance.

  • It is best to book rickshaw drivers for a whole day to take you to the main tourist points such as ‘Saheliyon ki Badi’, city palace, Sajjangarh palace, Jagmandir. And every hotel have their own list of rickshaw drivers who are known to them. In order to avoid bargaining and getting stuck with a mulish one, just go by their reference.
  • Since all places worth visiting are at a close distance to each other – you can complete the places worth a visit in 2 days. ‘City Palace’ takes the longest time – you need at least 3 hours to take the full tour of the palace and for history, architecture and art lovers it is advisable to take a guide ( available inside the palace ) or take the audio guide( for extra bucks ) which gives a more authentic account of the historical monument.
  • One day should be reserved for shopping at Gol bazaar, and for long walks(morning is the best time as you can enjoy the quietude and the serenity of the lakes and evenings for boating around Fateh Saagar lake, Pichola Lake, Dudh Talai, etc.
  • For the devout, there are many temples and one can take the ropeway to Jagmandir for Maata Darshan.
  • For those who like a bit of adventure and trekking, Bahubali hills is a must – as it is not that frequented by tourists and offers a very clean and natural environment.
  • If you have few days extra you can reserve one day for Kumbalgarh – also known as the Great Wall of India a Mewar fortress in the Rajsamand district 90 kms from Udaipur . It is the second-longest wall of the world after the Great Wall of China. Be prepared for a long trekking and walking the walls of the fort.
