A2 Milk – The Nectar flows

The Journey of Gau Amrit

What happens when a rustic first-generation farmer (diehard son of the soil person) and a US returned techie join hands to start an organic dairy farming venture?

The research and technical abilities in combination with the practical knowledge of farming and rearing animals gives the city the best fresh, chemical-free, unpasteurised, Gir Cow’s milk (A2) from the farm to your doorstep.

Pure, Natural, Organic

Meet Nikky Sureka and Govind Maheshwari – the dedicated duo who started their venture – Gau Amrit –  with 9 Gir Cows bought from Gujarat in 2016 which have multiplied to 108 Cows and 250 happy customers in Indore. Aside from producing A2 milk they also have cold-pressed oils of coconut, walnut, flaxseed, sesame, mustard, groundnut, almond, and many other seeds and nuts. Today they have almost 35 organic products like honey, jaggery, pink salt, spices, pulses, and grains which are supplied to their select clientele – SR FARMS

You can check their products on their Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/gauamrits?mibextid=ZbWKwL

The search for A2 MILK

Nikky – an engineer by profession left his high-paying job (a six digit annual package in dollars) at Accenture in the US in 2014 and came back with his family to his hometown Indore.

He says, “the US for all its glitter, glamour, and luxury could not satiate my thirst for peace and a value-driven life”.

Listen to his story in the podcast below-

Little did he know that his search for pure Cow’s milk for his daughter Kaira – a toddler, would leave him so exasperated that he would have to start his farm to ensure a safe, unadulterated, and oxytocin free milk for his children and his family.

For two years, Nikky left no stone unturned to test all packaged milk and those supplied by dairy farmers for purity and taste.

Disappointed, he embarked on a journey of research which he says – is a continuous and ongoing process on the best methods of dairy farming and the benefits of Cow’s milk especially indigenous cows such as Gir Cow.

He found that Gir Cow’s milk is naturally endowed with A2 protein which is easy to digest and a rich source of 55 different proteins, vitamins, and minerals.

NIKKY MEETS GOVIND

During the same time, he met Govind Maheshwari from Ujjain – a cow lover, cow Sevak, worshipper, and a gaurakshak.

A frequent visitor of all gaushalas, he used to tend to cows (gau seva as he puts it), carry their dung on a bicycle for distribution, ensure their well-being, and served them in every possible way.

Nikky saw the same passion and love for cows that he had, in Govind and they joined hands to start SR Farms and produce.

Both Nikky and Govind use anecdotes from our scriptures, the Vedas and the shastras to emphasize the importance of the cow and how we can benefit from its various products.

AT THE SR FARMS – INDORE – HAPPY COWS AND WELL FED CALVES

The cows are reared in the best possible environment, given the best feed, pampered, and worshipped.

The calves are fed the milk of their mothers first and the excess milk is kept for distribution. T

The milk from the udder is also drawn by caring gau sevaks and not by machines, to ensure that the animals don’t feel any discomfort when their milk is drawn! So, when you enjoy your cup or glass of milk, you can be assured that the milk is from happy cows, and you are not a party to the cruel and unethical treatment of animals or encroachment of their rights.

Moreover, their farm is open to visits, and they keep organizing camps on Sundays for their customers and others to watch honey extraction, cold-pressed oil making, and milking and feeding the cows.

Another major advantage is they distribute the milk in glass bottles – aha – a long-forgotten habit. (we used to get all kinds of milk in bottles during our school days).
